An orthotic device is an inner-sole in the shoe which enables the foot to be in a position which is more anatomically correct, helping to reduce pronation (excessive roll of the foot). This can help to improve posture and reduces some of the strains placed on the body.
Some of the conditions that can be helped with orthotic therapy include:
- lower back problems
- knee pain
- chronic leg/foot fatigue
- shin splints
- heel pain
An assessment is made of the foot, posture and gait, then a plaster of paris cast is taken of the foot, which is then sent to an orthotics lab, who manufacture an orthotic device according to the prescription written by your Podiatrist.
